Interviews April 28- Jonathon Welch

This morning at 9:30am be sure to listen out for Gary's interview with popular choir man, Jonathon Welch best known for his work with the Choir of Hard Knocks as well as the Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus. He'll be having a chat with Gary about his memoir, Choir Man.

Amy Spiers, Photobooth Project - April 21

Amy Spiers creator of The Photobooth Project will drop by at 9:30am to talk about her role in the Abbotsford Convent's 5th Birthday celebration. The Photobooth Project is a makeshift version of the traditional photo booth and offers participants a photographic souvenir, but with one catch, you must have your photograph taken together with someone you do not know.

At 1:20pm Chris will be joined by Simon Stone director of the Hayloft Project's production of Spring Awakening, that won the Sun Herald's best independent production in 2008. Hayloft is also preparing for a season of Chekov's 3xSisters at the Meat Market.'

You may have heard Raen's 70's inspired disco track, Honey playing on JOY recently. They'll be on the phone to Chris at 2:20pm to talk about the single, their upcoming debut album, After the Storm and their short film, Zombie.

DeAnne Smith


Thursday on The Campervan, Canadian comedian DeAnne Smith, will be on board with Bridget. She's in town for a couple of shows this week that are coincidentally on at the same time as the Melbourne Comedy Festival.


Earlier in the day Paul Anthony will take your calls on The Conch, he'll also be joined by Tracy Harvey to talk about Call Girl the Musical, Dr Caroline Symons about the Come Out and Play survey and comedian Janet A McLeod about her comedy tour of the Melbourne Museum.

What's on Tuesday

It's a Comedy Festival bonanza. This time of year all of Melbourne seems to be taken over by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and here at JOY things are equally influenced.

On Straight Up! with Taryn, Asher Treleaven will drop by at 8:40am to talk about his Comedy Festival show, Open Door.

Gary will have two interviews during his show Tuesday morning, Dave Bloustein will talk about his show, The Social Contract at 9:20am. At 11:20am, The Hounds will talk about their show The Last Bucket of Water.

In the afternoon, Chris will get a visit from Damian Callinan at 1:20pm who has a show at the Comedy Festival called Is This Thing On? The Dave Berry Story.

Missy joins The Campervan

Bridget has a couple of ladies with plenty of musical talent on board The Campervan this afternoon.


Missy Higgins who these days spends most of her time in the United States will call in to The Campervan on Monday for a chat just after 5pm.

Missy will be in Melbourne for one day only, this Easter Sunday performing with Tim Freedman and The Cat Empire before heading back to the US.

Earlier on Emily Williams will drop by for a chat after her performance in Bendigo over the weekend.

Adam Elliott on the Couch


Oscar winning film maker, Adam Elliott will drop by the Casting Couch just after 6pm for a chat about his latest film - Mary and Max.


The claymation film features the voices of Toni Collette, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Eric Bana, and Barry Humphries.

Mary and Max is the story of pen-friendship between Mary Dinkle, a chubby lonely eight year old girl living in the suburbs of Melbourne, and Max Horovitz, a 44 year old, severely obese, Jewish man with Aspergers Syndrome living in the chaos of New York and spans 20 years and 2 continents.
